What's the Big Idea?
Why
are all of us working so hard to launch Lifesong? Actually, there
are Six Big Ideas.
|
1. Primacy
of the Church
We recognize the unique blessing and annointing of God's church
for God's work. We
alone are equipped to be salt and light and we alone are called to "build
ourselves up." The church is too quick to overlook its vastly important
role in the world, quick to believe the big lie of our irrelevance. We
must recapture the vision of planting churches to fulfill the mission of God.
|
2. Discipleship
that Matters
Discipleship is the primary
role of the church and a job only the church can do. This
discipleship must be relevant and broad, touching on every sphere
of a person's life, reintegrating the whole person, so that as
they go out into their various roles in the world, individuals
bring the way of Christ with them into these spheres.
|
3. Grace
We will continue
to clearly hold the line, stand firm, and defend the clarity of the Gospel. God loves us because He loves us, the
blood of Christ alone is our righteousness and walking in this Grace alone
is the key to Godliness.
|
4. Servanthood
We are to go out into the
community and serve. We will not
stand at the door of the church and call them to us. We are
here to serve, they are not
here to fill our pews and to serve our needs. We
are here to seek and serve them and to love people as
Christ would if He were here!
|
5. Active Learning
Discipleship charaterized primarily by passive sitting
and listening in a lecture setting is very ineffective for learning.
Instead, discipleship must be relational, integrated, interactive,
and relevant.
|
6. City Unity
Working towards a vision of uniting with Christians and
churches all over this city, to strengthen them, as well as sharing
resources and building a common vision of discipleship.
